Our Origin

How a Laguna Beach wildfire became a fire prevention mission.

SparkWhyz began after a wildfire in Laguna Beach was started by a middle-school-aged boy using illegal fireworks. The incident inspired a youth-led approach to fire prevention, fireworks safety, and education before dangerous decisions are made.

Instead of asking only who was to blame, we asked a different question: what if someone had reached that student before he made the decision?

That question became the foundation of SparkWhyz.
